Tips to Increase the Chance of Success

In today’s society, many of us struggle with making and sticking to long-term lifestyle changes. We may wish to exercise more, quit smoking, eat healthier, and more, but it’s difficult to find motivation to make such drastic changes and see them through in the long-term. It seems like we are all in search for the best way to make lasting lifestyle changes, tips and tricks that will allow us to achieve our long-term goals.

The key to making lasting lifestyle changes is to break down the bigger goal into smaller, more easily achievable goals. For example, if you want to quit smoking, start by reducing the number of cigarettes you smoke each day. Or if your goal is to get in shape, establish smaller goals, such as running a 5K or exercising for 30 minutes a day, instead of jumping right into a strict exercise routine and diet. Making small changes (like cutting down on sugary snacks or taking the stairs instead of the elevator) makes it easier to stick to our goals in the long run.

It’s also important to be realistic and understand your limitations. Don’t set goals that are too far out of reach, as you’ll be more likely to feel discouraged and quit. Create a plan of action for yourself that you believe you are realistically able to follow.

Accountability is also important when it comes to making lasting lifestyle changes. Find an accountability partner who can help keep you on track and remind you why you began this journey to begin with. It could be a friend, family member or a personal trainer, but having someone by your side can be a great motivator and groove to success.

Finally, it’s important to reward yourself when you hit certain milestones. If you’re in the process of quitting smoking, treat yourself to dinner out or a shopping spree when you hit a certain number of days smoke-free. This will help you stay motivated to finish the goal you’ve set out for yourself.

Making lasting lifestyle changes can seem daunting to many of us, but it doesn’t have to be this way. By setting achievable goals, understanding our limitations and having an accountability partner, we can increase the likelihood of success. Plus, when we reward ourselves for our achievements, it makes the entire journey more enjoyable and a whole lot easier.
